Common sense may not be common practice.
Someone convinces you to follow them and they are going in a direction in which you are not very committed. How long will you follow them? Probably not too long. We can’t let other people’s definition of importance drive our lives. If we do we may not be too successful. What drives you and what gets you out of bed in the morning?
No matter what we may say, or what we may identify as our values, in the final analysis we will follow our heart. We can consciously follow someone else but our life may be in neutral. If we put ourselves in gear and step on the gas it certainly will be a conscious effort.
What’s really important to us and what do we really think (dream) about? If what we think about is just getting through the day that’s exactly how we will haphazardly live life. People should try to develop good habits that are going in the same direction as their true values. What are your true values? You won’t be able to fool yourself when identifying these values. If it’s not valued it won’t drive you into action.
Some cultures put the team first and other cultures emphasize the individual they say. Be an individual and go after your personal goals they say. However, those are just words because other people really want you to follow them even if they are leading you over a cliff or don’t have a clue where they are going. You give them authority and power.
When you follow your heart your goals seem to just fall into line. Don’t confuse activity or looking busy with accomplishing your goals or getting results. Some would say you have to employee yourself every day (just showing up is important to them) but if your heart is not in it you may just be a busy person.
