Fixing Microsoft Marketing Stupidity

When Monopolies start losing market share they think stupid (think AT&T for historical reference)

I recently bought a laptop for my wife which included Microsoft Excel and Word Starter 2010.  She’s not a power user so why not avoid buying Microsoft Office to fit her needs?

And so, you download a spreadsheet from email or the Internet and you can’t figure out how to open the document by avoiding the popup window:  “You want to purchase Microsoft Office now?”  No!  Instead of giving me an easy solution Microsoft presented me with a problem and that’s bad marketing because I didn’t like it at all!

To avoid this problem (without seeing an immediate solution from Microsoft) I just downloaded OpenOffice.org 3 (ORACLE) that can be used free.  In my opinion, it is more powerful and just as easy as the Microsoft Office products.  Also, you can open excel files when downloaded using their the Open Office spreadsheet.  Boy, did Microsoft do ORACLE a favor or what?

It is this kind of arrogance that will cause Microsoft to lose market share quicker than they would normally.  Stop and think about all the right things Microsoft could have done.  For example, if they had worked on the number one priority:  “Computer Security” as part of their product offering it would have been very difficult to move from Microsoft products.  People don’t want problems and disruption of their lives because of poor quality to make a few extra bucks!  Historically, think Japan and the auto industry.

Microsoft, instead of getting me mad why didn’t you amaze me with your excellent customer service?
