Weeding Your Garden

When you work with or for a jerk will it get better?

Not likely.  And so, what you are doing is delaying the inevitable?  You are depending on luck or circumstances (instead of your best effort) to pull you out of a mess?

Most of us try very hard not to become discourtesy to a weed overtaking the plants in our garden.  We just pull them up at the roots if possible.  We may understand this when it comes to our garden but it gets fuzzy when dealing with people.  However, we don’t often have to make the decision ourselves because if we don’t match certain people they may feel the same dynamic.  They too know there is not a match.

It seems that some people have the ability to get along with everyone and others don’t do so well with relationships.  Even so, we can ask some questions about weeds in the garden:

  • Are they trying to take over or are they just there?  Most weeds are trying to take over.
  • Do they have an agenda that contradicts your best interest?  In other words, are they a threat to your well being?

Even if it is your boss you may be in long-term trouble with a weed that contradicts your best interest and growth.  Elimination is the only real long-term solution.  Some weeds will just not allow you to grow to a healthy mature plant.

We realize that weeding the garden is a constant difficult job but it must be done.

Note: Don’t take any new job thinking it’s not going to be a lot of hard work in a messy garden. This is the reason they hired you!
