Happy is an overused and often meaningless word.
If you like to read the New Testament you will not find the word happy very often. Also, you may find it in a context you don’t understand or like:
“If ye be reproached for the name of Christ, happy are ye….” 1st Peter 4:14
And so, you are rich and you are happy. You lose your riches and now you are not happy. You get the girl, the family, the car, the house, the vacation home, the job, etc. and now you are happy. You lose these things and now you are unhappy.
Happy, as defined by many, is like staying eternally young–it’s not going to happen. I like what Solomon says about happiness:
“Happy is the man that findeth wisdom, and the man that getteth understanding.” Proverbs 3:13
If we gain wisdom and understanding we will be adding the right things to our lives instead of those things that make us slaves. When we look back over the lives we lived what will we be happy about?
Now you are seeing things clearly as if the window shades are opened and the sunlight is shining brightly. No longer are we in the dark room lonely and afraid. No longer do we depend upon all the external things we think will make us happy or sad.
Look inward because happiness is just our light switch away. We control the switch.
