You must be a Table?

Mid-1960s TV host Joe Pyne (shock jock) started an interview with Frank Zappa:

Pyne said, “Well, I see you have long hair. You must be a girl.” Without shifting expression, Zappa fired back, “So, I see you have a wooden leg. You must be a table.”

Do you use “labels” to compliment, clarify, or just insult people?  While some labels may be informative and descriptive they are seldom accurate.  For example, some people call themselves libertarian and wouldn’t agree much with other people using the same label.  Personally, I agree with so-called conservatives on some issues and so-called liberals on other issues and seldom find people I agree with in general.

Often labels are used to insult or simplify people or issues.  People use labels because they don’t understand issues and have little or no facts to argue.

Don’t show your ignorance by using labels to argue your position.
