Just a few comments about personality types when promoting your Network Marketing Business.
If you are like me you hate broad categories but if you read any books at all about selling you will read how to recognize and deal with the four personality types:
- Expressive – Fast paced, relational, extroverted, can’t focus, runs on emotion (stereotypical sales type)
- Driver – Big Picture, take charge, fast paced, not detail oriented, failure is not an option, bossy, Competitive
- Amiable - Wants to please everyone, will agree just to be agreeable, avoids decision-making, needs supervision and direction otherwise no follow through
- Analytical – Needs information, hates mistakes, and won’t make a decision without enough information
Many people do not “fit” a category but have strong tendencies toward a particular personality or modus operandi. We spend time recognizing a type to deal successfully with them. For example, a Driver doesn’t want a lot of detail even though they win at all cost–detail oriented people work for them to cover their backside. They tend to delegate so show them you can solve a few big picture problems.
And so, if you are relational instead of competitive you may need to go competitive with a Driver. Why? The competitor is win/lose not win/win and they are about to eat your lunch. Even though collaboration is the best long-term strategy for everyone they see a relational person as easy prey. Make them understand it’s not going to be easy to do that so they will lean your direction. Make them a powerful ally by growing (instead of cutting) the pie.
