Why Network Marketing (MLM) Works

Trust or Faith

In Network Marketing we need to have significant faith not only in ourself but in God. Lack of faith has been around a long time and we can continue to trust only in ourself. That’s a problem.

We are certainly not alone when it comes to this issue when we look at Mark 6 in the New Testament. You would think that the Apostles of Christ would be overflowing with faith and trust when you read this chapter and see the miracles. In verse 6 it says of Christ that “he marvelled because of their unbelief.” He sent his Apostles on a limited commission without anything except faith. In verse 8, “And commanded them that they should take nothing for their journey, save a staff only; no scrip, no bread, no money in their purse.”

Would you take a trip today without cash just depending on God to provide? No! However, that’s not the point in Mark 6 because Christ wanted his Apostles to understand the power of God and trust in him.

In this chapter he gave his Apostles several reasons to change their hearts about trust. We see him take a few loaves and two fishes and feed a multitude (probably about 15,000 people–only mentions the 5,000 men). Verse 42, “And they did all eat, and were filled. And they took up twelve baskets full of fragments, and of the fishes.”

Until recently, after hearing a sermon, I never really thought about or understood the rest of the story. Like most people I just see his Apostles getting in a ship on the Sea of Galilee and Christ eventually going out to meet them walking on the water. That’s not the real story. His power to walk on water and the Matthew 14:28 account of Peter coming out to meet him on the water (losing faith and being saved) is not the complete lesson.

You see from the picture that the Sea of Galilee is not too big and at its widest point it’s only eight miles across. That’s not much of a challenge for a bunch of strong fishermen to get across the lake. Verse 48: “And he saw them toiling in rowing; for the wind was contrary unto them: and about the fourth watch of the night he cometh unto them, walking upon the sea, and would have passed by them.” They had been rowing all night and were getting nowhere fast! He wasn’t coming out to meet them it says that he “would have passed by them.” Why?

He was disgusted with them because they didn’t trust in his great power even after all the miracles. In fact, they weren’t getting much help getting over to the other side on the Sea of Galilee either (rowing against the wind). Verse 52, “For they considered not the miracle of the loaves: for their heart was hardened.”

Are you rowing against the wind? Perhaps there is a reason why.
